Milan Kundera rises with the Kingdom of Redonda
The author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being was funny when they told her the jury's decision. The Kingdom of Redonda is based on a tiny Caribbean island founded by British writer MP Shiel in 1880 who, as a joke between friends, spread the legend that his father had bought to make heir. After spending copyright in copyright for years, the title ended in the hands of Javier Marías in 1997 and three years later launched the eponymous publishing. From here, follow one another appointment of a literary and artistic nobility, some of whose members form the jury prize at the different calls. This year the honor went to, among others, artists such as Pedro Almodovar, Lobo Antunes, John Ashbery, Orhan Pamuk, Arturo Perez-Reverte and Vargas Llosa.
